this car has 250,000 miles on it and it still runs like new

Well, yeah. It’s a 1997 Toyota with 250k miles on it. May as well be new.

This car is interesting, because it’s a Southeast Toyota chimera.

Southeast Toyota was one of the first captive distributors that began importing and selling Toyotas in the US. They famously added all sorts of cruft to their cars...in this one, the most obvious is the pinstripe. Here, they also appear to have done an interior treatment, making the car’s interior brown. But the most obvious indicator is the STX badging. STX was not a Toyota trim level at all, it was created by Southeast Toyota and used on the cars that they modified (and upsold). Whereas the stock interior color for pretty much every Celica was grey, the STX models have blue, brown, or I believe red interiors, as well as alloys and pinstripes.

Also worth noting, though the car is obviously not a 1997, it’s either a 90 or 91. The taillights are the earlier style, in 1992 they switched to a taillight without the gridlines where the reverse light was centered in the lamp instead of being closer to the bottom.
